We started the evening with open house from 4:00pm to 5:00pm to give the youth time to review the information that was handed to them. We also asked them to write down one question regarding the agreement. Dinner was served a big thanks goes out to Linda McDonald and helpers for preparing an amazing meal.
Then we made a discussion circle, and Darrell Bob went ahead with an intro to the agreement. He did amazing, he really got the youth involved. After our discussion and many question answered, our performers Nacoma George and C-Solow put on a awesome show. The youth left better informed, and had FUN!!
Questions that the youth had:
I want to help, how can I help?
How can the St’at’imc Hydro make a difference?
Why is this a one time agreement?
What will the employment and education opportunities in the future?
Why did we have to fight for our agreement?
Is this only about money?
Why should we agree to this? and if we do how will it benefit us?
What was happening before the Hydro Agreement started?
What good will come if the bands agree to this?
We really enjoyed setting up this meeting for our youth. Our St’at’imc Youth are very important to us and their concerns need to be heard. I know that the youth walked out with a better understanding about the St’at’imc Hydro Agreement.
