The Interconnectedness of St’át’imc

The Interconnectedness of St’át’imc

Pala7lhkalha (one people, one language, one culture)

and Pál7usem (one family, tribe)

We use the words above to try to capture our identity by using the language. Our language is one of many strengths and what binds us.

The newly formed St’át’imc Constitution Team has been appointed (a representative (s) from each community) to begin the process of developing a St’át’imc Nation constitution.   Part of that process, the Team had identified the importance of St’át’imc interconnectedness in the collective vision, principles and goals of St’át’imc.

We would like to invite you to share your stories, understandings, & knowledge about St’át’imc interconnectedness, unity & nationhood.

I watched with dismay a Chief from another nation give an interview with Ezra Levant. A man who is closely tied to the CPC. In this interview Chief talked about our right to own our own land and why he encouraged his relative not to buy a house on reserve that she would never own. Of course this would please the CPC who want nothing more than to have all of us "own" land so it can be bought and sold to the highest bidder. What strikes me is that we historically did not "own land". The land we had was shared by all of our people as were the resources. We took care of each other. I am very worried about the new Acts being proposed by the Federal Government and any Constitution we have should ensure our law overrides the Feds. We need everyone to know in this document that any law or agreement that will cause the division or cause one of our Nation's Bands to lose their rights and/or title will not be recognized. Should any of our Bands determine that they will be signing these agreements then they must first remove themselves as St'at'imc Nation members and will not have the same rights and privileges afforded those in our Nation. We are one Nation not one big Nation made up of smaller Nations. Valerie Adrian
