Emergency boat launch opens

St'át'imc Government Services, Janice Billy, Fisheries Manager: The Lillooet organizations have worked together for about 14 years to install an Emergency Boat Launch, this assists our emergency crews to easily launch boats into our Fraser River. The ribbon cutting ceremony included Aboriginal and local government leaders, representatives of government agencies and first responders followed by an excellent Spring Salmon feast, the luncheon was hosted by Sekw'el'was.

Previously, the first responders launched boats under the 23 Camels Bridge causing extensive damage to the vehicles and trailers, a rocky uneven surface. At times they had to travel 40 minutes away from Lillooet, depending on water levels. This jeopardized the safety of everyone.
